Privacy Policy

Yokai Music ("the Service") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information the Service uses and stores. Last updated: 2026-08-15.

1. Information we collect

The Service has no sign-up and does not collect personally identifying information (name, email, etc.) on any server.

Sounds you create (your library) and your chosen theme/language are stored only in your browser’s localStorage and are never sent to a server. Clearing your browser data removes them.

2. Cookies and tracking

The Service uses third-party cookies and similar technologies (Google’s) in order to show ads. See "3. Advertising" below for the details.

To improve the Service, page visits and feature-use events are sent to Google Analytics 4 through Cloudflare Zaraz. Analytics cookies and persistent visitor identifiers are disabled. The Service does not send your chords, notes, project title, shared-project query string, or other music-project content.

Apart from that, the only information stored in your browser is functional localStorage (your theme, language and library); the Service never uses it to identify you.

3. Advertising

The Service shows ads through Google AdSense. Google and other third-party advertising vendors may set or read cookies in your browser and may use advertising identifiers and device information.

Behavioural data collected: the addresses of pages you visit and when, ad impressions and clicks, your browser, operating system and device type, and an approximate location inferred from your IP address.

Purpose: to show ads relevant to your interests, to limit how often you see the same ad, and to measure ad performance.

Retention: this data is collected and held by Google, not by the Service, and its retention follows Google’s policies. The Service neither collects nor stores it directly, and never inspects it in a form that identifies an individual.

How to opt out: you can turn off personalised ads in your Google account at https://myadcenter.google.com. You can opt out of participating vendors in one place at https://optout.aboutads.info. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some features may then be limited.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a Google-certified consent management tool will present its own consent dialogue, and ads are adjusted according to your choice.

4. External services

The Service loads the external resources below. Each provider’s own privacy policy governs how it handles data.

Google Fonts — web fonts.

Google AdSense — advertising (see section 3).

YouTube — videos in blog posts load in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). If you play a video, YouTube may still use cookies.

gleitz.github.io — the real-instrument sample files used by Ear Trainer and Chord Lab.

discord.com — the community card on the home page reads the Discord server’s public widget data (the online count and the invite link). That request uses no cookies; once you follow the join button to Discord, their privacy policy applies.

Cloudflare — site hosting, visitor counts, and cookie-free delivery of anonymous feature-use events through Zaraz.

Google Analytics 4 — aggregate page visits and feature-use events. Analytics cookies and persistent visitor identifiers are disabled, and music-project content and URL query strings are not sent.

5. Affiliate links

This site contains affiliate links. If you buy something through one, the merchant may pay us a commission. It does not change the price you pay.

The one program we currently take part in is Splice (via impact.com). Every affiliate link is shown with an ad label and a disclosure notice.

An affiliate link is not an ad script: the Service sets no cookie to track you. Once you follow the link, however, the merchant may set its own cookies, and from that point their privacy policy applies.
