What is Ear Trainer?

An ear-training game, not a chore

Ear Trainer is a round-based listening game: hear a sound, name what you heard. Three modes cover the essentials — single notes (find the pitch on a keyboard), chords (tell major, minor, diminished and augmented qualities apart) and scales (major, natural minor, pentatonic and more), each with graded difficulty.

Training happens on real instrument timbres, not beeps: choose piano, electric piano, violin or guitar. Your trained ear and your everyday listening ear stay the same ear. A mini keyboard lights up the notes that were played, so your eyes reinforce what your ears caught.

Tips for effective practice

Short and frequent beats long and rare — five focused minutes a day teaches your memory the "color" of each interval faster than an hour once a week. Anchoring intervals to songs you know is a proven trick: a perfect fourth is the opening of the Wedding March.

Once you clear 90% on easy, move up a difficulty. Your score card at the end of each run can be shared, which makes friendly competition an easy motivator.
